The Sacramento Coalition to End the War was formed after the United States invaded Iraq in March 2003 to stop this illegal and immoral war on Iraq. The Coalition has held large rallies, sponsored town hall meetings, led a successful effort in 2005 to have the Sacramento City Council pass a resolution to withdraw U.S. troops and bases from Iraq, it lobbied Representative Bob Matsui to vote against supplemental funding for the war, and is currently engage in an effort to get Representative Doris Matsui to publicly commit to vote against any more funding for the war. The current campaign includes a peace-in, which is a peaceful office-hours sit-in in Rep. Matsui's office that started on January 8, 2007, the beginning of the first week after the 110th Congress went into session on January 4, 2007.
The Coalition has coordinated a number of media events and submitted articles, drawing broad news coverage from national (Associated Press), statewide, regional and local television, radio and newspaper/wire service news outlets, national and international news websites and blogs publicizing the terrible effects of the war and occupation of Iraq.
